I am Deacon Mervyn Francis; and a Deacon in the Archdiocese of Sydney.

I was appointed to John the Baptist Parish Bonnyrigg in March 2013. I competed an Associate Degree and Bachelor of Theology and Philosophy. I was ordained on 26th March 2015 at St Marys Cathedral by Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP.

I migrated to Australia from Pakistan in 1987, and I am one of the few married Deacon’s in Australia, my wife is Rita and we have one daughter Diana. Besides being a Deacon in the Church, I also have a full time job

On 31st May 2016 I had the privilege to meet the Holy Father Pope Francis at the Vatican during the year of Mercy at a Deacon’s conference.

As a Deacon I assist in liturgical ceremonies and pastoral care of the parish. I assist at mass, preach homilies do baptisms, weddings and funerals. As a deacon I am also here to serve the community and lookout for the needs of the elderly and the sick. I am also called to assist the Archbishop when he is celebrating Solemn Mass at the Cathedral and parishes.

I am available if any parishioner need to get their house blessed, bring Holy Communion to the sick or elderly and if anyone wants to get spiritual direction.
