In the Catholic Church, infants are baptised to welcome them into the Catholic faith and to free them from the original sin they were born with. The church also warmly welcomes new adults into their church.

  • The essential rite of this sacrament consists in immersing the candidate in water or pouring water over his or her head while invoking the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • Everyone who is to be baptised is required to make a profession of faith. This is done personally in the case of an adult or by the parents and by the Church in the case of infants.

John the Baptist Parish celebrates Baptism regularly on Sundays. Families presenting children for Baptism must attend 10:00am mass on the first Sunday of each month. Parents and sponsors (Godparents) are most welcome. This is followed by a meeting with Fr Dominic, Fr Richard and/or Deacon Meryvn. We no longer take bookings for Baptisms prior to these meetings; a date is discussed on the day of the meeting.
